One of my first major digital publishing projects was for BioAlberta, the life science industry association for Alberta.
The BIOZINE is BioAlberta’s flagship annual publication featuring stories from Alberta’s life science industry. In 2017, they released a special edition of the BIOZINE, which was a directory of all their members and partners that year. The directory was designed to promote their members at international conferences.
The Task
BioAlberta had already prepared the necessary information about each company, including names, descriptions, and logos. The task was to then compile over 125 members and partners into an interactive directory sorted by name and primary industry sector.
The Solution
The data was provided in a spreadsheet, which I cleaned up in preparation for uploading into InDesign using a Data Merge. This quickly generated the pages of the directory which I then tidied up to minimize overset text and page breaks.
There are two Tables of Content in this directory: one sorted by primary industry sector and one alphabetical by company name. Both contain functional hyperlinks to the individual directory entries, which made navigation easier on digital formats.
The BIOZINE directory is available both as a printed document and also as an interactive digital PDF.
